Speeches for Maid of Honor


You found out that your close friend is getting married, and she chose you as the maid of honor!  You might wonder; what am I going to say at the reception? Speeches for maid of honor are supposed to be special. This often times, can stress you out. If you are not prepared, it can be disastrous.  Here are some great tips for a memorable speech.

When your closest friend is getting married, recognize how much she means to you. You want everybody else to know how wonderful, sweet, bright, elegant, beautiful person she is.

            Maid of honor speeches, then, have two clear, objectives.  You want to let her know that, on the most stressful, important day of her life, you are there for her, to calm her with your security and endless friendship.  Why?  Because she continuously has been there for you; given you love, companionship and admiration in what has likely been a sisterly relationship.

            You also need to sing this lady's admirations to the other friends and family members who have congregated for this special day, the occasion of her wedding.  You want the groom to know that he's a fortunate man, and that he should never forget it!

            You want her parents to recognize that they did a great, raising her.  You want to let everyone know why they are here; to honor a wonderful lady.

First, we are a going to talk about your introduction. Next, we are going to talk about your speech. Finally, we will finish up with your closing.

First, let’s talk about your introduction. You want to keep your introduction brief. Acknowledge appreciation to the bride. This is your time to let her know, how thankful you are for the opportunity to be a part of her special day. Even though the introduction is short, it plays a big part in your speech. It definitely sets the tone.

Next, let’s talk about your speech. You want to acknowledge the couple. Spend a few seconds flattering the groom. You can mention good qualities about him. Then, tell the bride how you feel about her. Bring up a great memory the two of you share. Don’t be too personal. It’s ok if you get emotional, as this will happen when you are speaking from your heart. Follow up with a great joke that will make everyone laugh. This will lighten up the mood. Let her know how beautiful she looks. Keep your speech 2 to 3 minutes long. Short, sweet, and to the point is the perfect way to think of it.

Finally, let’s talk about your closing. It’s simple to think of a closing right? You just wish the couple the best and you’re done! – Wrong. You want to thank guests for coming. It’s important to turn and speak directly to the guests. This added touch will make it sincere. Now, you can thank the couple, and wish them the best. If you are married, then it’s a good idea to give the couple advice. You can quote an inspirational song lyric, or give them words of encouragement.  Make it the best maid of honor speeches they will ever hear.
