First, when you open your speech you want to thank everyone for coming, and making the wedding possible. If, a relative had to wait at the airport for hours because of a flight delay, acknowledge it. Let them know how grateful you are after they went through all that trouble. Also, acknowledge the wedding party and thank them for everything they did. This will definitely set the tone for the rest of your speech. If you move your hands, it magically eases your nerves.

Next, we are going to talk about what to say to the bride. If you find that you are still very nervous after your intro, look your daughter in the eyes. She will feel even more special, and loved. This will help calm your nerves, because it will feel like it’s just the two of you. Let her know how proud you are, and speak from your heart. At this moment, you might get emotional, and that’s OK. Follow up with a funny joke. I mean something that will make everyone laugh! Don’t forget to mention the groom. You can talk about your first impression of him, and how happy you are to have him apart of the family.

Let’s talk about the closing. At this point you have said all you wanted to say. Toast the newlyweds. Give them great advice that will allow them to get through the rough patches in marriage. Is there a song lyric you find encouraging? Or a quote, that is inspirational? Give them words of wisdom, they can remember years from now. Then, wish them the best with the most sincerity! Make sure it’s very sincere.
